Shine Your Light Variety Show Fundraiser
July 25-26, 2025 // Directed by Julie Nelson
Shining Light Theater’s first show was a variety show to help raise funds for the company’s first season. This multi-generational show included: songs, dances, drama sketches, and the one-act play “Everyone,” which was written by David Chase and adapted from the medieval, morality play “Everyman.” The allegorical figure, Everyone, is informed that he only has one hour left before starting his journey to Eternity. Can he find the One who can lead him there before his time is up? He asks Wealth to help him. He asks his Friends to help him. He asks Good Deeds to help him. He asks Charity to help him. He asks Humility for help and she suggests Hope. He considers turning to Despair instead because it seemed the easier and familiar choice. But Hope invites him to believe and he finally reaches out to Hope. For Hope knows the One who Everyone needs, and He is the only One who can save Everyone.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
November 14-16, 2025 // Directed by Julie Nelson
Our multi-generational cast enjoyed performing this Christmas classic, which was based on the book written by Barbara Robinson. When our director, Julie Nelson, first read the script she appreciated the comedy of the heartwarming Christmas story, but as she studied the play she began to see much more! She saw a church locked in their traditions and not interested in sharing the message of Jesus with those who needed to hear it. She saw a congregation who was self-righteous and judgmental, and unloving. She saw six children who were mean, tough, rebellious, and naughty – but they were really just lost, hurting, and confused young people who didn’t know any better. She also saw a mother who was thrown into a position where she didn’t know what to do, but wanted to do her best. She’s shocked and nervous when the six Herdman children show up at church and cause problems, yet the mom chooses to show kindness and compassion to them. Our director also saw the the desire of the Herdman children to understand who Jesus is and their hunger for the truth. It really was the Best Christmas Pageant Ever!
The Handpicked Queen
March 27-29, 2026 // Directed by Julie Nelson
The Handpicked Queen was based on the powerful, Biblical story of Esther, queen of Persia. The script was written by Andrea Merboth and was performed by a multi-generational cast. Taken from her home and heritage to become queen of Persia, Esther soon discovers a plot to destroy her people. To stop it, she must reveal her identity to the king and risk her life. Guided by her cousin Mordecia, and strengthened by her faith in God, she steps forward with courage. Filled with tension and divine purpose, the production reminded us that ordinary people can be placed in extraordinary moments – for such a time as this!
